I am a native of Haiti and I am 22 years old. I come from a low-income family. My mom always tells me that I am born drawing and painting as my little fingers constantly moves over the tiny sheet I use to lay on like I am drawing something. Through painting I express my feelings, I disclose message to vulnerable people of my neighborhood. I teach children how to paint and how to best use their spare time instead of getting involved in alcoholism, drug addiction and violence. Currently I am involved in teaching school children located in tsunami inundation zone how to express their fear, their willing to get engaged and to disclose safety messages to their community by drawing diverse types of disasters and good behavior. I have such a feeling of fulfillment by doing this through painting. My biggest dream is to become one of the most renowned artist that promote transformational and behavior change through art and creativity. I wish I could win this contest as I always work from imperfection towards perfection.

Narrative

Through this picture, I would like to convey that beyond the fact that communities come in diverse sizes and shapes, they all will face hazards, challenges and opportunities. Community disaster resilience is key to sustainable development. It all depends on an organized and knowledgeable effort that should be supported by national levels. A community can be transformed in so many ways that might endanger life and livelihoods that identifying, understanding and mitigating risks might be crucial to avoid casualties and suffering. Urbanisation and Modernization should take into account existing risks. The primitive man is there to show that people can at the same time destroy their environment and are still the engine of resilience while leadership, governance and financing are the fuel to that resilience.
